Often, it is easier for us to recall the bad things or the things that didn't go right in our lives than it is to remember the good things.

I was feeling uneasy about some classes I wanted to take. After sharing my feelings with my daughter, I realized I was feeling uncomfortable with my decision to take the classes because I was associating this new adventure in my life with a similar old event that did not turn out good for me.

I followed some instructions in a book I was reading entitled, "Basic Principles of the Science of Mind" by Dr. Frederick Bailes. The author suggested that one make a list of all the good things one could remember.

I made a list of the good things in my life -- all the right decisions I have made -- all of the best compliments I have ever received. When I looked at my list, I smiled.

I believe you will smile too when you make a list of the good things and you see on paper all the things that you did do right -- or, have gone right in your life.

We experience more good than bad. However, the bad stands out in our memories more than the good.

**********

Because of new projects I am involved with, I may not return with a new podcast episode until January. Much love to all and celebrate every day. Peace-

I talk about the coming holidays and how stressful holidays can be. I also state that unlike taxes, we don't have to do holidays. We can choose to celebrate or not celebrate in a manner that feels good to us.

I also speak about the fact that that I was raised in a Baptist church and our family celebrated Christmas. I talk about the anger I felt when I found out my gifts didn't come from Santa. I felt betrayed by adults and never trusted them the same after that. I vowed that when I grew up and I had children I would never tell them the Santa lie. My children and I enjoyed Christmas and the Christmas stories. However, I always told them that when they get a gift it is because someone loved them enough to share something wonderful with them.

Let everyday be a holiday. We don't have to wait for someone to tell us when to give gifts to our friends or give something thing back ti those in need. Celebrate everyday in your special way.

This is not the podcast I was planning to do on this day. When I attempted to record the podcast I was going to do, none of my recording devices and gadgets that I normally use would work. Therefore, I decided to use material that was already recorded. This podcast is the introduction track to a CD I recorded a few years ago entitled, "Crazy for me - How I Got Over Bipolar Disorder and Other Life Stuff". It is not a singing CD -- in this CD I am still talking. LOL!

In this recording I share what it felt like when I was dealing with depression and other so-called mental illnesses -- and, How I took my life back.

October is "Domestic Violence Awareness Month". I believe what we focus on we create more of. Therefore, I am not going to dwell too long on this topic at this time. However, I do feel that it is important for people to be aware that domestic violence and relationship abuse is prevalent and is a real challenge in our communities.

Also, understand that men as well as women sometimes find themselves in abusive relationships. An average of three people are killed in this country every day as a result of a domestic violence incident.

In this episode I address what I believe is the most asked question about domestic violence, "Why do they [the person being abused] stay?"

I also talk about what some of the warning signs are, the importance of paying attention to our gut feelings, and what I believe the solution to domestic violence and relationship abuse is.

I conclude by talking about the "PLAYER". Players don't hit women. They just play with them emotionally. Is this abuse?

I found my ninth grade report card from 1964 -1965. How I remember me as a student and what the report card reveals are two totally different perspectives. My homeroom teacher reports that I was somehow too talkative and and out of control during the first half of my ninth grade year. I am also trying to figure out how I could have gotten an 'N' (N = Needs improvement) in homeroom conduct. I remember me being fun and funny. Could my teachers have mistaken my wonderful gifts of joy and bigger than life self-expression as a problem?

I also describe a couple of situations where I thought the adults did not respect or honor students as they should have.

I share how much fun my sister and I used to have taking turns being characters from the musical, West Side Story. We would dance for hours to that sound track in our living room. I never thought in a million years that I would meet any of the people on that album. However, as an adult, I had the pleasure of performing with the late Larry Kert (Tony in the original Broadway version of West Side Story) in the musical Two Gentlemen of Verona.

Wambui talks about how she once thought she didn't dream. However, most dream experts agree that everyone dreams. But, not everyone remembers their dreams. Wambui compares dreams to imagination. Wambui believe that when we use our imagination we are dreaming dreams that we can control, while sleeping dreams are involuntary. Just as one can create a story or movie or a garment by first imagining it, we also have the ability to create the life - and, even world that we desire with our imaginations.

Wambui talks about fashion -- and, how, worldwide, it is a $7 trillion a year industry. Fashion is not something you can choose not to participate in because in most places clothes are necessary.

She shares some of her views on fashion.

She talks about a book she read about a year ago entitled, "Killer Clothes" by by Anna Maria Clement, PhD, NMD, LN and Brian R. Clement, PhD, NMD, LN . They are co-directors of the Hippocratic's health Institute.

Wambui highly recommends the book and share information about "Killer Clothes" not to scare but to empower listeners by making them aware and more empowered and healthy consumers.

The book makes us aware of the amount of chemicals and toxins that are inn our clothes today.

She also talk about the effects that a bra and other constricting clothes could possible have on our health.

The two main topics/questions that are focused on are:

1. If we are what we eat, are we also what we wear?

2. What have we sacrificed for fashion?

Wambui says, "Our bodies are our temples. Have fun with fashion and wear beautiful healthy garments like the royal beings that we are."

I start off talking about how to deal with the 'craziness' of the US and World political scene. I talk about two things in particular.

1. Go out and check it out and research what is going on around you. Understanding the history -- the real -- history of events and things can empower one.

2. Go within. Study and know yourself.

I then speak on the topic: "Honor Those Who Are Not Present". This is a phrase I first heard Stephen Covey use when he was being interviewed by Tony Robbins some years ago. "Honor Those Who Are Not Present" is about dishonoring someone who is not present by gossiping or speaking negatively about them --- and, what does that say about the person speaking negatively?

I sum it up with a mention of how love is the key to nearly every thing wonderful.

We order from the Universal Menu every second of every day. We are ordering with each thought we think and every word we speak.

Many of us live day to day on automatic. That is, we forget that we have the power to choose not only our thoughts, but, also our emotions. Our thoughts and emotions feed our subconscious mind and send a signal to the Universe / God. The Universe responds by turning our thoughts and emotions into our things – our environment – our situations – our lives.

My Universal Menu allows you to focus on what it is you do want to create for yourself.

However, since I have been podcasting, I've started studying how to do better and more effective podcasts. One thing that I keep hearing is how the title of your podcast should reflect -- or in some way give a clue what the podcast is about. I think my title could do a better job of that. However, in this podcast, I explain why I will keep the title as it is.

As I say in the podcast intro, "This podcast is named for my book, 'You Don't Know Crazy'. In the book I tell the story of how mental illness stole my life -- and, how I took my life back."
**********
Several people have told me that they have a problem with my use of the word crazy when referring to people with mental illnesses. Well, I just thought it was time to have some fun with that word. You see, it wasn't until I got 'crazy for myself' that I was able to turn my life around. In fact, I encourage YOU to get crazy for YOURSELF!

<itunes:summary>It's Power Day - Today and Every Day!

Today I want to talk about power. P O W E R

I love saying the word 'power'. Power is a beautiful word. Power is a beautiful thing -- our self-power, that is. Power is wonderful when we understand that it is not something we try to control others with. It is not about allowing others to have control over our power. I encourage everyone to embrace their own innate, God-given power.

Our power is our life force. Without our power, we are, well, -- powerless.

When we are powerless, we are depressed or frustrated. Or, we have that 'Eck, what is the point?' attitude.

We can lightly compare our power to the electrical power of our homes. For instance, we may have fancy light fixtures and light switches and bulbs that provide just the right ambiance, but without power, our light fixtures and switches and bulbs are powerless. Our cars are the same. Without gas and all the things connected to give our cars power, our cars are powerless. We are not going anywhere.

Here is the really good news: We are never powerless! Unlike our homes and cars, we don't depend on outside sources for our power. We just think we do sometimes. We were each born as powerful beings.

However, over the course of our lives, many of us are talked our of our power, taught our our power, persuaded out of our power -- and we are sometime told point blank that we are powerless. It is our warped perception of our lives that causes us to feel powerless.

Think of the stories about mothers who found themselves in situations where under normal circumstances they would have felt powerless -- like a mother who can't swim but manages to swim out to rescue a drowning child. Or, the mother who believes she's not very strong, lifts a car off of a child to save the child's life.

A Story of Power

Many thousands - if not Millions of years ago lived a wonderful, high priestess - goddess who at that particular time in universal history ruled the world.

She was concerned, however, with the fact that man (when I say man in this story, it includes woman too). She was concerned with the fact that man on earth was misusing his power.

She witnessed fighting among the people.

She witnessed stealing.

She witnessed people lying to each other.

She witnessed people cheating each other.

The people were starting too many wars.

She witnessed some of her own powerful associates withholding information from the people that the people needed to know.

She witnessed some of her own powerful associates overburdening the people with too many new taxes and too many new laws and rules.

She didn’t understand. She thought to herself, "These are beautiful magnificent, amazing, divine beings. She didn’t understand why they would act as something other than themselves -- as something lower than themselves."

She had had enough of seeing man misuse his power.

She decided to take man’s power away and hide it until man was ready to use his God-given power responsibly.

She wanted to see man do the great and wonderful things that man was capable of doing.

Until man decided they would use their power to create and love and lift up one another; she decided to take man’s power and hide it.

But, where?

She decided to hold a conference with the very smartest gods, goddesses and other royal beings.

She noted that it was not that some people were gods, goddesses and smart - while others were not. It’s just that some knew they were gods, goddesses and smart -- and others did not.

So she invited the ones who knew they were smart. She told them the reason for the meeting was to come up with a place to hide man’s power because man was misusing his wonderful and amazing power.

The conference went into its third day of meetings and discussions about where to hide man’s power so that he could not find it. There had been no acceptable ideas as to where to hide man’s power.

<itunes:summary>My daughter, Julie, works diligently on any task she is given. She is dedicated to self-improvement, self-awareness and spiritual growth. She is not afraid to dream and she is not afraid to allow good and beautiful things and people in her life. She often ushers me onto a more empowering path. In spite of the challenging chapters in our earlier lives, both of my daughters, Marie and Julie, move through life gracefully and with open hearts.

Recently, Julie, invited me -- or, perhaps I should say, took me to Madrid, Spain with her. I had a most amazing time. It turned out to be an adventure that was a dream come true for me. This is truly amazing because it wasn't even my dream! It was hers. I am grateful to Julie for allowing me to be in her fantastically fabulous dream.

Below are links to some of our Madrid resources and things we talk about in the podcast.

Airline:Â Air Europa

Housing: Apartment through Airbnb, Ritz Madrid

Restaurants: Mesón Rincón de la Cava, Ritz Garden

Tours: Real Madrid Benabeu Tour, Madrid City Tours

This video below inspired us to eat at this restaurant, Mesón Rincón de la Cava, and have everything they had. It was all delicious!

<itunes:summary>Having a loving relationship with you is extremely important. Unlike relationships with other people, you cannot leave yourself. Wherever you go, you are going with you. Therefore, the relationship you have with yourself must be nurtured. Here are 5 simple tips, that if followed, you'll be sure to have a more healthy, happy and loving relationship with YOURSELF. Honestly and deeply loving yourself is necessary In order for you to honestly and deeply and healthily love another.

1. Learn to Say, "I Love Me" - Fake It 'till You Make It
I've met many people who cannot say they love themselves. Some think that it is almost sacrilegious to say, “I love me.” If you can’t say it and mean it, then I suggest you fake it until you make it. Act as if you love you. The psyche doesn't know the difference between what is real and what is imagined. Before long, you will start to believe it—and feel it.

2. Forgive Yourself
Some people feel they are undeserving of love because of mistakes or 'bad' things they've done in the past. Whatever we may have done or said (or in some cases) did not do or did not say, you are forgiven. If you believe that you have to wait for God to forgive you, know that you have already been forgiven. God is not a vengeful God. God / the Universe wants you to be happy. Also, you can and do have the power to forgive yourself.

Learn from your mistakes. If possible, apologize and do what you can to make things right and move on to higher ground. Don't spend your life suffering.

3. Honor Yourself
Yes. You deserved to be honored. You are a child of God / the Universe. Do you think God would create something that was not worth honoring? Honor yourself by feeding your mind, body and spirit the best that the Universe has to offer. Would you put something called 'junk gas' in your car? Then, why would you put something called 'junk food' in your body? Respect yourself.
Don’t stay in relationships or environments that do not serve you well.

4. Take Yourself on a Date
When people are attracted to some one else, they want to spend time alone with each other. Couples go out on dates to spend time alone together to get to know each other better. Spend time getting to know you. Take yourself on dates. Use the time alone to take inventory of your life and make decision on what new directions and adventures you'd like to explore. Reconnect with your inner strength and wisdom.

Don’t be afraid of silence —- or afraid of what you might find out about you.

5. Don't Take Yourself Too Seriously
Find the humor in some of the things that you do and say. Find humor in your world and your environment. Laugh, dance, sing. Find hobbies that Interest you and bring out your joy.

If you think divorcing someone else is stressful, painful and financially devastating, try divorcing yourself. Ouch! Not pretty. You cannot leave yourself. Therefore, learn to LOVE YOUR WONDERFUL, POWERFUL, MAGNIFICENT SELF!

<itunes:summary>Today I'm going to talk about my theater jobs. In fact, I would like to share how I got my 1st professional theater job. The way I got it was -- different -- very different. I do separate my theater gigs from my so-called regular jobs. My theater jobs (or gigs, as I sometimes refer to them) are my jobs of passion. I am passionate about my theater jobs and I love performing. I have such a respect for both performing and the theater that it puts these jobs in a whole different category by itself.

Although my acting jobs are still jobs, I have had some people say to me, "When are you going to get a real job?" I state adamantly that acting jobs are real jobs. To others it may not look like we're working because we are doing something that we love so much we would do it for free. Acting or performing jobs have often felt to me like I could not live if I could not do them. Many times I have taken an acting job for little or no pay. However, working for free is not always a good idea when one enjoys eating every day and having a roof over their head.

I don't think it matters what job one is doing, if one is really passionate about their job -- whether one is a teacher, carpenter, nurse, street-cleaner or store clerk -- whatever -- if one really loves their job, the passion will shine through and those looking on will say, "They are not really working -- or, they are not working hard enough."

Enough of that for now. Right now I want to take you back to the year 1971. I want to take you to New York City -- Greenwich Village. I was an acting student at the New York University School of the Arts at this time. I worked as a box office treasurer at various off-Broadway theaters. In a theater trade paper, I read about a show that was having auditions. The thing that stood out to me from in ad was that they wanted those auditioning to choose a parable from the Bible and make it funny. I wanted to do that! Back then I was still toying with the idea of being a stand-up comic.

<itunes:summary>In a previous post, I talked about some of my first jobs. I talked about the fact that I have had a lot of jobs. Sometimes when I think of the many jobs I've had -- when I attempt to make a list -- it is almost unbelievable to me the number of jobs I've had.

It was also amazing to me when I compared how much I was working and how little I had in my bank account to show for all my hard work. I've since heard the late Rev. Ike say, "Learn to work your mind instead of your behind". It was late in my life when I finally understood and got the entrepreneurial spirit.

I was never a slacker. I always worked full-out. I've worked with some people who would spend the whole work shift trying to do as little work as possible. I found that the hours seemed to past faster if I just did the work. In the past, one trick that always got me going on the job was imagining that the business or store or corporation where I worked was mine. I'd treat the customers well and do my best at whatever job I had because, in my head, I was pretending I owned the company or organization where I was working. Of course, I never told anyone this -- especially, the real owners.

In this podcast episode, I share some of the experiences I've had at some of the jobs I used to have. One thing that attributes to my long job list is the fact that I worked for a temp agency for several years. As a temp, it was possible to go to five different jobs in one week. In one of my books, I raved about how wonderful the agency was that I worked for when I returned to New York City in 1999. I think they were kind of disappointed that I didn't mention them by name. So, I'll do that now. They are the BEST -- The Employment Line.

Some of my jobs (other than theater career jobs) include -- but are not limited to: Shoe salesperson, post office worker, telephone solicitor, phone psychic, department store associate, receptionist, off-Broadway box office treasurer, manager of New York City Theater complex, home water-filtration system salesman . . .

<itunes:summary>Perhaps he saw the flowers that I kept bringing home.
Or, how lately, I requested a little more time for me to be alone.

Maybe it was the smile that had become a permanent fixture on my face.
Or, perhaps he noticed that my lingerie was accented with a little bit more lace.

Whatever it was he somehow knew that something was different with me.
Like a fool, I believed that it was my secret—that no one else would see.

Sometimes I felt uneasy—even a little guilty—perhaps I should tell,
But I needed more time—I needed to be sure—my secret could wait just as well.
*****
It took me by surprise when I heard him whispering to someone on the telephone.
He said, “I hate to do this but a man has a right to know what's going on”.

I heard him when he made the call.
I got real close to the door and heard it all.

He said, “It is obvious there is a new love somewhere,
I don't want to be played like a fool.
Send me your best guys from your most impressive private eye school.
I'll pay you guys two thousand a day.”

He hired these ‘private eyes’ to follow me night and day,
Trying to catch my new love interest and me in some compromising way.

Deceit was not my intention
Lying is not my game.
But a woman’s got to do what a woman’s got to do,
This woman felt no shame.

I can't hide my emotions—just make them go away.
Love is mighty powerful and I knew this love was here to stay.

One morning I rose before dawn and bathed in warm water with delicate bubbles everywhere.
I dusted myself with fine powder and added a fresh rose scent to my hair.

When I stepped into my yard that morning,
The sun embraced me with her warmth
But I felt cold eyes watching me.
I felt a presence behind me,
But every time I looked around, no one did I see.

I took a step,
They took a step.
I stopped,
They stopped.

An explosion of flash bulbs when off in my face.
Then, they looked at me and smiled and started the chase.

Red lights on the video cameras were aglow,
Following me everywhere I would go.

I turned this way,
They turned this way.
If I went right,
They went right.

I ran.
They ran — oh yes, it was on!

I ran down to the lake.
The water was cool and clear.
There were yellow and purple daffodils growing
everywhere.

I skipped over to the meadow,
The grass was green and thick.
The grass beckoned me and I answered,
I took off all my clothes and laid down in it.

The sun kissed me all over.
I felt brand-new.
Yes. I was in love—I had a new love.
Yes, it was true.

I climbed a nearby mountain and I stood on the very edge.
I could have taken any cloud I wanted but I grabbed a rainbow instead.

I wrapped the rainbow around my shoulders—and made a rainbow skirt too,
And then I sprinkled my face with the early morning dew.

Helicopters were circling overhead.
There was nowhere to hide—so I ran some more instead.

A few private eye guys were hanging from a tree,
With cameras posed, ready to expose my new love's identity.

Finally, when I could run no more,
I dropped my knees to the ground.
I shook my head and looked up smiling.
My new love would not let me frown.

I laughed out loud to myself.
“Busted!” I shouted to myself.
I threw my arms in the air and then I embraced myself.

I yelled, “Are y'all blind?”

“Can’t you see?”

“My New Love,
My New Love,
My New Love is ME!”
***
Falling in love with one's self can be a magical adventure.

<itunes:summary>I started tripping down memory lane -- family cars, high school parties and such . . .

I wasn't able to find the photographs of the various cars my family owned that I had the rights to use here in my blog. However, I do have a board on Pinterest where I do have pictures of all of the cars I mention this podcast. The is the link.

Until my sister got her driver's license at 16, our family never owned a car. We were walkers. We walked to church, to school, to the grocery store, downtown to shop. Neighbor's did offer us rides sometimes -- especially, for night-time events.

A 1957 DeSoto Firesweep was the first car we owned after my sister got her license in 1964. One afternoon my sister was taking me to my Girl Scout meeting when a man ran a stop sign. My sister, who was driving, was forced into a cement wall. The car was totally demolished. But we survived without a scratch. Our neighbors and other people in our city told my mother how lucky we were to be in a car that literally served like a tank to protect us.

A navy blue 1963 Chevy Bel Air was the car that replaced the totaled 1957 DeSoto. My mother loved this car. I was sad about the navy blue Bel Air after having had a red, long, sleek car with fins.

My mother's first brand new car (where she was the first owner) was a 1978 Chevy Nova Custom - my mother's pride and joy after the 1963 Chevy Bel Air.

In the meantime, my father got himself a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air -- making us a two car family.

The last car my mother owned was a Chevrolet Celebrity. I'm not sure of the year, but think it was 1988 or somewhere around that year. She drove it to church every Sunday. In the early 2000's, my brother fixed the car so it wouldn't start because my mom had Alzheimer's.

When I got my license at 16, I was just in time to drive myself to all the weekend parties given by high school friends that I knew. Gas was 25 cents a gallon. However, between me and a few friends we managed to get as many 25 centses (is that a word?) as we needed to make it to from the parties.</itunes:summary>
