<itunes:summary>In episode 32, we talk about 4 different ways to use video to promote your brand. Using video online doesn't always mean you have to be standing in front of the camera. There are many different types of video you can use.

In this episode we talk about 4 different types of video you can use to help engage your customers and build your authority in your chosen field.

The four types of video we cover are:

	The explainer video
The PowerPoint of Keynote voice over
	The screen capture video
And of course the piece to camera video

The explainer video, is a short (usually animated of hand drawn) video that explains a concept. These are great for explaining exactly what it is you do and how it works. They work best if you keep them short and to the point.

[Tweet &quot; Are you using these 4 types of #videomarketing to promote you website? #podcast&quot;]

Example Explainer Video

http://vimeo.com/38858205

The PowerPoint or Keynote voiceover is exactly that. Both those programs have a feature that allows you to record narration as you step through the slides in your slide deck. At the end of the presentation you can export the slides and accompanying narration as a video. Load it up to YouTube and away you go. These work week in an instructional seeing.

Be careful though, they can get boring very quickly.

Example Powerpoint / Keynote Voiceover

A screenflow walkthrough is a recording or what is happening on the screen of your computer. These are great for explaining how a web app of piece of software works. They also work well in a support desk scenario where yo are trying to show a client how to do something.

Example ScreenFlow Walkthrough

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRQM8yaokd0

Lastly the piece to camera video. This works well for getting your potential clients to know, like and trust you. Nothing conveys a human message as well as video. You will need a bit of practice to pull these off however. You will also need a good microphone and some decent lighting.

Lastly the piece to camera video. This works well for getting your potential clients to know, like and trust you. Nothing conveys a human message as well as video. You will need a bit of practice to pull these off however. You will also need a good microphone and some decent lighting.

In episode 30 we take some time to catch up with our case study website ThePresentationCoach.com.au. If you have been following along throughout the podcast we have been applying each topic in a case study fashion to Gerald's new brand and website. We have created the brand, bought a domain name, got a website up and running, and we have email capture and lead generation mechanisms in place. So we have the car built, now we are going to talk about how to drive it.

If you are a specialist in delivery of a certain product or service then this is the episode for you. We talk about employing an Authority Marketing model to position Gerald as an authority in his niche and create some 'pull marketing' to gather customers to him who are seeking those services. Authority Marketing can work for just about anyone when it comes to building a personal brand online. So listen in as we discuss how to get started and please comment below.

<description>In episode 28 we talk with John McIntyre &quot; The Autoresponder Guy&quot; about what email marketing can do for your business and how to use autoresponders to grow sales.

Everyone always wants more traffic to their site, but what about people you already have on your list. Many people ignore the audience they already have on their mailing list. These are the people  are already interested in your message so make sure you are keeping the conversion going with your hottest prospects.

We talk with John McIntyre &quot; The Autoresponder Guy&quot; about how to use email marketing and autoresponders to get your message in front of your customers and help solve their problems to sell your products or services.

We cover issues such as:

How to get started sending emails to the people on your list.
How to have the right mindset to be successful with email marketing.
What is an autoresponder and how you can use them?
How to use story telling in your emails.
Make sure there is a 'call to action'.
How to warm up cold leads with an email sequence.
	How to avoid common mistakes.
	What is your first step?

[Tweet &quot; There is a point where an email #autoresponder is going to be a big win @JohnMcIntyre_ #email &quot;]

SEO Part 2:
Barry Moore:  We touched on a few of those things there. You say “compelling content” as well. Nobody really knows for sure, obviously, but do you think Google is rewarding sites that are publishing frequently as opposed to those kind of sites you mentioned before that might just be a five-page static site that never changes?

John Romaine:  One thing I do know for certain is that you can essentially train the bots to come back and search your site more frequently. I know that might sound bizarre, but it’s true.

If you’re publishing everyday or every second day … I’ve been doing this a long time. I’ve run sites where I’ll publish something like maybe once a day or twice a day. Very, very rarely will I publish twice a day, but at least once a day. Those publications will be indexed within minutes. I’m talking two or three minutes.

Sorry, what was your question, Barry?

Barry Moore:  It’s just basically, will Google reward your site, generally speaking, if you are publishing more frequently? I see a lot of people who, they put together one of those sites like you mentioned before, a five-page static site, “This is about us. This is where we are,” and they put it up there and they expect to rank well, but that information is years old and months old.

It’s stale and it doesn’t change and you’re not updating the site. Google’s just probably going to look at that and say, “Look, this never changes, so there’s no point in me going back there. There’s nothing compelling about that content.”

John Romaine:  Look, I’m only guessing, no one knows for sure; I don’t think it makes sense for Google to be rewarding sites that publish more frequently, but if you’re publishing more frequently, chances are that the engagement will be higher and the chances of you acquiring links will be higher because you’ve got more engagement.

The more frequently you’re broadcasting your message and publishing, the more likely it is that your site’s going to be performing much better as opposed to a site that’s just sitting static. I know for certain that if you’re publishing frequently, Google, their bots hang around and they’ll be picking your stuff up really quick.

I think what’s really important is that you give your content depth and you publish media-rich content, so across a broad variety of mediums, whether that be written content, photos, pictures, illustrations, diagrams, PDFs, video,</itunes:summary>

Getting Started With SEO Part 1:
Barry Moore:   All right. In this week’s episode, we’re going to take a bit of a closer look at search engine optimization or SEO. Joining me is John Romaine of WorksMedia.com.au, an SEO consultancy service in Northern Sydney. He’s a guy who’s got his sleeves rolled up working in SEO everyday. John, how are you? Welcome.

John Romaine:  I’m good. Thanks, Barry. That was a fancy intro. I do have the sleeves rolled up, actually. I’m usually up to my armpits in alligators with this stuff.

Barry Moore:   I can imagine. Something that changes all the time, I would think?

John Romaine:   Absolutely. Yeah.

Barry Moore:   How’s things in Northern Sydney these days?

John Romaine: The weather is beautiful. It’s warm through the day and then freezing cold at night, but I can’t complain. I’m in a beautiful spot here at Pearl Beach.

Barry Moore:  Lovely.

John Romaine:  Yeah, about 150 meters from the beach. It’s quite nice.

Barry Moore:  Nice. That’s about the same with us, just two streets back from the beach here in the Sunshine Coast. Great.

John Romaine:  It’s probably a little bit warmer where you are.

Barry Moore:  Yeah. It’s good now I think summer’s on the way. All right. Just for the listeners out there, anybody who’s had a website for any amount of time has probably heard the term SEO or even been regaled with tales of how some Dark Art SEO wizard can press the magic button and get them the Number 1 listing in Google.

John Romaine:  That’s how it works.

Barry Moore:  Exactly.

John Romaine:  I’ve got Matt Cutts’ direct number here. Let’s call him and give him the web address and away we go.

Barry Moore:  Fantastic. I think it’s up in that most people have heard of but they probably don’t have a really clear understanding of what SEO really is or all the different elements that go into it. Maybe we’ll start out with, if you can give us a brief introduction to what is SEO?

John Romaine:  I have to admit, for your first question here, Barry, I cheated. I’ve just taken an excerpt from Wikipedia.

Their definition of search engine optimization reads, “Search engine optimization is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a webpage in a search engine’s natural or unpaid organic search results. In general,</itunes:summary>

Every website owner needs to be creating content. Content is like food for the Internet, it gets shared and consumed every day by billions of people. Make sure it is your content that is getting shared and consumed. Listen in to our interview with James and find out how to do it right.

Let us know in the comments below what was your biggest takeaway from this podcast.

[Tweet &quot;&quot;Our site is coming up on 9000 indexed pages&quot; #contentmarketing @JamesSchramko&quot;]

[Tweet &quot; When people blog they get 67% more leads #contentmarketing @JamesSchramko&quot;]

Barry Moore: James, most of our listeners are just embarking on the journey of getting or moving their brand off-line to on-line and obviously one of the topics that comes up is how we engage with the customers and get not just traffic to your site, but qualified traffic to your site. Content marketing is certainly a very good way to do that, but I would say most of our listeners don't really have a clear understanding of what content marketing really means, so perhaps you can provide a brief overview on what content marketing is.

James Schramko: Well, content is just stuff. That's what the web's made up of - content, whether it's text or video or audio. It's kind of like food for a human, we consume it. One of the big distinctions is who's content is it and where are you getting it from and where are you putting it.

As a business owner, the typical business is probably thinking about or has a website. They say in Australia only 50% of businesses even have a website, which is pretty frightening. Let's say you're in the half that does have a website. The chances are it's probably being fairly stagnant and not updated so often and that you might, maybe participate on Facebook, certainly as a personal thing, but maybe not as a business. And that's pretty much the extent of it.

So you're probably consuming content that other people put out. You might be reading a news site or you might be watching what's happening on Facebook. You might be reading some industry news sites that relate to what it is that you do, but the chances are, you're not creating the content. And that is something that should change for most people.

If you're prepared to put stuff out there for people to consume, then they will actually become engaged with you, they'll find out about you, it increases your authority, it can lead to sales. So, it's a worthwhile thing to do. Just like all other traffic options, there is a cost to this, whether it's time or money; however, it's a really long-term payoff type of thing to do.

It can snowball into a substantial asset. And it can give you a business that has a lot of... it's like a big flywheel that spins. You know, like a sandstone flywheel, like they show up in the stones with knives on. Once it gets spinning, it's got a lot of momentum and it works for you all the time, whether you've attended or not, which is the more mature stage that gets to.

Barry: Okay. When people think about content for their website, they're typically thinking about kind of the static pages - the about us page or the contact page, etc. but what I think what we're really talking about here is specific content targeted to your ideal customer that's going to engage them and ideally try and solve their problem, rather than that kind of static website kind of pages that everybody thinks about. Is that right?

James: Well, in the first place, it's even just to get their attention. So, these podcasts that you do is content and it is putting you out into the marketplace to be found and to start a discussion and to gather a listenership, an audience.</itunes:summary>

However, if you don't have goal tracking set up first you won't know which of those techniques is the most effective at turning website visitors into customers.Define Your Goals
Determine How You Will Measure Them
Set Up Goal Tracking in Google AnalyticsYou can get start quickly and easily be using your Google Analytics account to track visitor actions that are important to you. For example, in the graphic below, for this particular site we are tracking a goal called &quot;engaged readers&quot;. These are people who read 3 or more posts in a single visit to the website. We can reasonably assume that people who are spending that much time reading our stuff would also be receptive to buying our products.I want to know where our most engaged readers are coming from. You can see that direct traffic and email traffic are the two sources that are producing the most engaged readers, so I would want to spend more time on those channels. You can also see that social media is converting to our goals at the lowest rate. So that tells me I need to spend more time tweaking our social media content and strategy to get the numbers up.  Once you have goal tracking in place you can see in black and white, what you need to do to improve your conversion rate. If you want to find out how to set up goal tracking for your site, first get Google Analytics set up for your site. You can go back to episode 13 to find out exactly what you need to do to make that happen. Next download our Goal Tracking Action Guide.
