A Fire Medic Perspective: The top five things that Legal Counsel wants Emergency Responders to know. Rom Duckworth and Allison Bloom discuss how we may not know what we need to know to stay on the right side of the law and sometimes what we THINK we know can get us into more trouble than what we don't.
Our guest today is Allison J. Bloom of the Bloominghill Group, a consultant, coach, attorney and educator for emergency services that you may have heard present at EMS Today, EMS World and other national and regional conference events. Her articles on legal issues have appeared in numerous emergency services publications and she has worked with responders across the spectrum of public safety on the topics that affect our profession the most.

Rom Duckworth sits down with Capt. Jerry Myers to ask “Bloodborne Pathogens: What do we REALLY need to know?” We have to sit down every year, but what is new in 2013? Are we teaching what we are supposed to? What does and Infection Control Officer even do? What is the role of a supervisor or company officer in an exposure? Listen to some great calls and questions.

Captain Myers been in EMS for 36 years. As a US Army Medic 77-80, EMT 80-82, EMT-I 82-92, Instructor 86 to present, and Paramedic from 92 to present. He has worked in Volunteer, Commercial, Third Service, Hospital Based EMS and Fire Based EMS. Currently he is a Captain and Ambulance Supervisor with the Ridgefield Fire Department and a Regional Manager for Vintech Management Service, an EMS Staffing Service.
