OURGENPOD "talkin' 'bout Our Generation" is a bold, intelligent, irreverent podcast about life in America -- how we got here, and how we can make things better. We're focused on the generation of people 55+ -- like us -- but all are welcome. We just don't believe in Ageism. We're confronting some big challenges as a nation and globally, and we're all in this together. We don't confront, rant and rave (too much); we're looking for solutions. We've talking about the dangerous decline in civility in America. Our content is guided by our audience: we listen to our listeners. So please join the conversation, but just try to be civil!

But we bet you know others who are not, and we hope you will share this episode with them.GENSPACE is magic. Listen and you will hear what we mean.</itunes:summary>

We are deeply saddened at the passing of such a kind man who taught us so much, so gently, but we feel blessed to have recorded an interview with him for "The Woodstock Episodes" on our podcast in 2020. In his memory, and in the hope that Michael's powerful message of peace, love and music can be heard by as many people as possible in this troubled time, we are re-broadcasting an updated version of our 2020 interview with Michael. In many ways, it fits perfectly into our current series on "The State of Civility in America," since that is precisely what he was promoting at Woodstock.

Please listen.

In this Episode, Host Julian G. Simmons talks with one of the great drummers of our time, MICHAEL SHRIEVE.

Michael has a really fascinating story to tell, about how he joined Santana at 18, played a world-shaking drum solo in front of half a million people at Woodstock '69 when he was only 20, and has managed to keep on growing as an artist for 50 years since. In many ways, Michael’s life follows the archetypal track of many of us, from wild youth to our current, more mellow stage of life. His lively conversation with Julian brings it all back; it's quite a tale. But he also delivers a potent dose of inspiration for many of us who may be forced by age to give up things we love doing. Michael hasn’t stopped making music in spite of the inevitable aches and pains that prevent him from pummeling the drums like he did at Woodstock. Far from giving up, he’s moving on, and getting better. His new music is a stunning reminder that some things DO improve with age.
