The post SustainabiliTREE Podcast Ep1 – Welcome: Why do we plant trees? appeared first on Mascarandy Media.

I make no excuses for the fact I’m a caver and love being underground. But why do we do it? In this free ranging chat I spoke to Jack Overhill who is the training officer at the Red Rose Caving and Pothole Club as well as being a volunteer for Cave Rescue.

Jack takes people underground for a living and has also worked with those with special needs.

We chat about  all things to do with adventure tourism and also speak about the cave rescue that took place in Brecon recently.

This is a cracking chat, I’m sure you’ll agree!

Recently, I got together with the author of  Sky Dance, The Last Hillwalker and Bothy Tales  to talk about creativity in lockdown, how I got into writing and my thoughts on the future of the Yorkshire Dales and its uplands.

I don’t get chance to chat to a fellow scribe often so it was great opportunity to talk about books and the outdoors – as well as woodland creation and a bit of caving too.

You can check out the podcast here  with John also giving me permission to embed it below (after listening me go on for half an hour!)

It’s great to be part of the FATMAP family. FATMAP is an outdoor adventure platform and high-resolution 3D map for both web and mobile (iOS and Android).

I have been commissioned to post a number of my favourite routes on the site – challenging and gentle and I really look forward to sharing them with you.

Here is an example – download on your phone, enjoy and above all let me know what you think of the route.

In December, we announced an affiliate partnership with SplashMap.

The innovative company designs wearable, washable, all weather maps for the real outdoors. Basically, any map – Ordnance Survey etc – can be printed onto fabric that can be worn or stored in your pack.

And as it’s fabric, it will take the best of the British weather too!

I’ll be scribbling a product review of the map shortly but in the meantime, use the link and support one of our partners.

I also had the opportunity to try out some of Grizzly’s Adventure Blends’ products – a company I’m hoping to link up soon.

You can see an ‘Insta Story’ of the brew being made here – just head to #brewwithabrew Highlights.

Many thanks to Jason Shaw for the use of ‘Running Waters’ in the podcast. Check his music out on the link!

Inspired by Forest 404 Mike takes a look at his change of circumstance and why outdoor writers have to link people to nature even if it means giving up their ‘gems’ for all to experience.
