Jim Blair and Steve Dundis are two damn good-looking older gentlemen -- 71 and 80 years old -- who are interested solely in intellectual pursuits and enlightening the world. Actually, each of their psychiatrists suggested that they engage in some worthwhile and productive activity following their retirement from the faculty of Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, so they banded together like brothers to create the podcast, “Learning for the Hell of it.” They now say that if they had known up front the technical knowledge and preparation involved, they would probably have stuck with their hobbies of cliff-diving and bare-knuckle boxing. But they decided to forge ahead in spite of their selves.
“Learning for the Hell of It” has been created to explore anything and everything about learning, from reading bathroom graffiti to solving the meaning of the universe. Or, as Jim put it, “to explore the underbelly of learning in all of its incantations, treading where ‘angels fear to tread’ and where lesser souls would high tail the hell out of there.” Consequently, they will tackle controversial topics, interview a very diverse group of people, and allow nothing to be off limits to them, constrained only by the limits of their boundless curiosity and intellect.
Jim and Steve began this adventure with one purpose in mind—to have fun. Now, somewhat more sober, they realize that in the process they are exposing themselves to a potentially large, unfamiliar, and critical audience . . . YOU! They hope you’ll listen and choose to stay around for a while. It may be a little bumpy at first but they think you’ll enjoy it.
